Making a Therapy Appointment

Making Your First Appointment

The first step is deciding that you are ready for help. The next step is to call or email Heather at the office to set up a complimentary consultation call with a therapist who is most likely to be able to treat your root challenges. Making that first call can be nerve wracking, but just know that at the other end of the phone call - you’ll meet Heather who will support you in getting you started.

Preparing For Your First Appointment

You’re ready to be more Intentional about your wellness and we’re ready to support you! To prepare for your first appointment, Heather will send you the intake packet. From there and at least 48 hours before your first session, you’ll complete the intake questionnaire which gives you an opportunity to share what brings you to therapy.

Time Investment of Therapy

Your first intake session will last 60-75 minutes. Thereafter, sessions typically last 30-55 minutes (you and your therapist will discuss the length that is best for your treatment goals. Most people come to therapy weekly and as you gain momentum toward meeting your goals you and your therapist may decide to move toward bi-weekly, tri-weekly, monthly or as needed. These decisions are best made by you and your therapist and based upon your health care goals.

Future Therapy Sessions

Many ask, “how long will I need therapy”. The answer to that varies depending on your goals for therapy and the amount of time you are willing to invest based on your goals. Psychotherapy is an investment in you! Make time for this!

Knowing When You’re Done

Knowing when to be done with therapy depends on several factors like patient success, type of problem, personal home/work factors, and patient’s progress. Some people feel immediate relief while others may take an extended period of time. Therapy doesn’t have to be a lifetime commitment and 75% of patients can notice significant improvement after 6 months.

Future Therapeutic Check-Ins

The Journey to Intentional Wellness doesn’t end when you stop seeing a therapist. Many of our patients and clients schedule periodic check-ins. If a life challenge comes up, our patients are encouraged to schedule more frequent visits.
